60 minutes ran an interesting article and news report about Generation X and Y joining the workforce. The idea is that the nearly 80 million kids born between 1980 and 1995 are causing a fundamental psychological shift in the workplace. The differences in our upbringing from those Baby Boomers has made us self-oriented, less company loyal, more resourceful and technically skilled. By participating in more extracurricular activities like sports and chess clubs we have more agile minds and confidence, but far less work experience and patience when hitting the job market. We are more likely to have multiple jobs in a single year and not be anxious about it, because we know there are bigger and better things.

The article brings up some good points that I know I have experienced since joining corporate America, but also (at times) it insinuates that this movement towards a relaxed work attitudes will negatively effect our economy. I personally think that it will effect our personal lives and stress levels more than the effectiveness of the business world. Read for yourself here, and give your opinion.
