Why we do this
I am reading this book, Jump Start your Business Brain, trying to get ready to re-design and re-write my company’s website and I found a couple of points I wanted to share.
The section I am reading has to do with the brain and creativity.
“The power of the brain is thought to be less determined by the number of brain cells than by the number of connections between the brain cells.”
They go on to say how brain cells are connected by dendrites that make connections over synapses, the greater number of connections between your brain cells, the quicker and more efficiently your brain works.
“As you feed and challenge your brain with stimuli, you create more connections between your brain cells”
Believe it or not they even did a number of tests with client groups to determine the equation to creativity. Through testing they realized the groups that generated the most ideas, had the greatest chance for success, the most amount of outside stimuli and a diverse thought approach, and the least amount of fear. The following equations shows those results:

I think this is so crucial as to why we (designers) are the smartest people, we are open to looking at things, trying to understand or process the why’s and how’s. This is a direct relation to why frequent blogging creates more followers. The more you look and grab the information out there, sort through the good and bad, and present to an audience that is interested in learning new things and looking at things in a new light, the more following you will have. I think it is so wonderful to have internet immediacy in my life. In any given day I visit around 80 different websites, searching for the interesting, the amusing, the delightful, and the depressing. I create a personal happiness by sharing relevant information with my friends, giving them a new bit of information to think about. The more I learn, the more I share, and the happier I become. Now if we could just monetize all this brilliance, we would be good to go!
Anyway just some thoughts I wanted to share. I love that I get to read a book like this at work. Essentially I am getting paid to get smarter, thats the favorite part of my job; getting paid to be brilliant. What a circle.
“The more you challenge your brain with activities, the smarter and more creative you become.” Thats the new motto to my life, keep exploring!
