Back when I was a kid digital artists didn’t have an infinite number of pixels to work with when creating graphics for computers and video games. This created a style of pixelated people and objects that today seems laughable when compared to games like Halo and Madden. Like most trends of the past this one is enjoying a resurgence as artists are using the style to reflect on how computers have changed our world and our minds.

Here are some examples I’ve seen recently of the pixel being re-purposed.

Icon Watch – Very NES.

Ironic Sans – Clothing to save the post-production team from blurring out your logos.

Smashing Magazine has also compiled a nice list of pixel related art and graphics. I’ve included a few here, but would recommend checking the link for a comprehensive look.

Rubikscubism – is a side project website from street artist Space Invader.

NES bead graphics – A pretty good collection of pixel art from another retro artifact.

pixel.nascimpact – Pixel artist portfolio.
