A Royal Digital Display

Not only are the Royals above .500 for the first two weeks of the season, but their home-opener unveiled Crown Vision to the public (picture taken before they placed the crown on top of the screen).
The crown-shaped, high-definition display has replaced the old scoreboard and accounts for $8.3 million of the $250 million project to upgrade Kauffman. It’s being billed as the world’s biggest video display, just ahead of the one at the University of Texas‘ football stadium.
‘Honestly,’ Chris DeRuyscher, director of game entertainment, said Tuesday, ‘We don’t feel like there’s a lot we can’t do here.’

The control room features “floor-to-ceiling windows and some 40 computer monitors” and a “team of 17 will operate the brand-new, jaw-dropping, 8,900-square-foot Crown Vision board that is the centerpiece of the K’s makeover.”
As you can see this display acts as a dynamic media guide. This additional information adds to the fan experience and I can very easily imagine information graphics being utillyzed to display game trends and statistical patterns that pure numbers don’t convey well.
